L’Image Bio
It feels more like an apocryphal tale which exists only in our imaginations---but the all-star unit L'Image did indeed briefly exist.

The year is 1973.  Five friends living in Woodstock---who just happen to be among the most respected musicians at their instruments---deciding to make some music. About to hit the road to achieve what would be certain supergroup status, they scatter into the wind after just a handful of legendary performances when two members are offered "big gigs."  They vow to regroup when those gigs ran their course, but they just never stopped coming for Tony Levin, Steve Gadd, Warren Bernhardt, David Spinozza and Mike Mainieri---during the thirty years plus that have since elapsed.

It's 2010 and now they're back for their first European tour.  Apart from their own solo projects, the affiliations and credits of the L'Image bandmembers stagger.

Steve Gadd is the most sought-after drummer in the world---a status he has maintained for decades. Among countless other tours and recordings, he is behind the drums for James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Paul Simon and Chick Corea---who famously said "Gadd plays perfect."

As a result of his virtuosity in different musical idioms, David Spinozza is a first-call studio guitarist who has recorded with, among others, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin as well as John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo. In what was a lengthy association, he played, composed and produced for James Taylor.

Tony Levin, another studio phenomenon and bass-playing legend, recorded with Steps Ahead...as well as Pink Floyd. He is an original member of  King Crimson---with whom he still performs---and ever since the 70s he has been Peter Gabriel's bass player of choice.

Apart from his classical performances and educational videos, Warren Bernhardt is the pianist for Simon and Garfunkel and was the music director for Steely Dan. Mentored by the legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans, Warren was also a Steps Ahead co-leader and keyboardist.

Mike Mainieri has performed on over one hundred gold albums with the biggest names in pop, rock and jazz including Frank Zappa, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Rich and Bonnie Raitt. He was a DownBeat "Critics Poll" winner at the age of 20, a pioneer in the use of the electronic vibraphone and the co-leader of Steps Ahead with Michael Brecker.
